According to Dr. Daniel B. Wile, the problem with the rules of good communication is that you can’t use them while you’re angry, which, unfortunately, is exactly when you need to use them most. The reason you can’t use them while you’re angry is that they directly contradict anger, telling you not to be angry when the sad fact is that you already are angry. If they’re impossible to use while angry though, then what is the use of them? Dr. Wile writes that the best use of the rules may be to master them just so we can know that we’ve violated them.
