Stress in Relationships: 10 Sources and Their Antidotes

There are many possible sources of stress in a relationship that may be more or less out of our hands, such as family illnesses, the daily work of running a home, or financial issues. Relationship stress can be exacerbated in the ways that we communicate and deal with the more external problems. Sometimes, the way a couple communicates can cause additional stress by raising questions like whether the relationship will survive, if each partner’s feelings are the same, if both parties have equal power and independence, and especially if each person is safe. Even if these questions can be answered in the positive, the necessity of contemplating the question at all can be stressful.
