Dr. Judith Wurtman, the founder of a Harvard University hospital weight-loss facility, had an interesting conversation at a wedding with an overweight woman. The woman opened up to Wurtman, aware of her weight-loss clinic, but claimed that she needed a marriage counselor to truly fix her weight problem, which involved an overweight husband with no job and no desire to help with the home responsibilities. Wurtman only heard her side of the story, but could agree that it seemed like her problems ran deeper than typical diet advice could address. Overeating is often a symptom of other life problems; however, achieving a healthy weight also shouldn’t be left until the deeper problems are solved.
