This week, 20/20 will air a special on open marriage. The story centers on one married couple, Sierra and Martin, and their various partners. The idea of an open marriage is not a completely foreign concept. Different “arrangements” have occurred throughout history. In a modern open marriage, the couple sets rules for external relationships. These kind of marriages can work if the ground rules are followed, and the couple maintains honesty about their dalliances. There needs to be a high level of trust and an ability to let go of jealousy and neediness.
