Infidelity is one of the worst offenses in a monogamous relationship. Vows to remain physically and emotionally faithful don’t automatically remove all temptations, but the power of their relationships, and the realization of the damage an affair causes, keep many spouses from cheating. If an affair occurs, two things can save the marriage. The first is professional marriage counseling. Counseling creates a safe space to speak about feelings and expectations without escalating into destructive arguments. The second element is time. Having patience to wait for a relationship to mend is difficult, but as normal routines are re-established, a sense of normalcy can develop and relationships can become even stronger.
