There are some fundamental issues on which couples should agree or compromise in order to create a happy relationship. Couples should agree about what they want out of the relationship. Incompatibility in this area can cause major problems later, for example if one person wants marriage and the other doesn’t. Long-term goals are also important. Do you agree on starting a family, focusing on a career, or traveling the world? For most relationships to work, the couple needs to live close together, or have a goal of moving closer. Finally, it’s easier if a couple can agree on life values and beliefs. With open communication, compassion, and compromise most couples can work through their differences.
