There are many theories about the causes of guilt but there are five agreed upon types. First is guilt over something you did. Second is guilt for something you didn’t do but wish that you had. Third is guilt about something you imagine you did. Fourth is guilt about not helping someone as much as you might have helped them and fifth is guilt that you are better off than others.
