The Health Premium of Marriage: Personality or Sex?

There is a known correlation between marriage and health. One study has shown that 88 percent of men who are married survive from the age of 48 to 65, compared to only 66 percent of single men. While married women did not display a distinct mortality advantage in that study, several studies in the past few years have concluded that married people live longer than divorced, widowed, or never married people across the planet. The correlation between health and marriage, however, is only a correlation. It may be that marriage makes people healthier, or it may be that healthier people are more likely to get and stay married.
