It’s not uncommon to hear that “nice guys finish last.” In his 2008 article of the same name, Peter Jonason investigated the positive aspects of negative traits like callousness, narcissism, and impulsivity in males and how studies show that, while those traits appear negative on paper, they are successful in attracting women to a male who displays them. Those traits generally create certain characteristics in men, such as a lack of empathy and a focus on short-term goals rather than long-term. Because these traits and characteristics are so successful in drawing attention of the opposite sex, Jonason posits those traits may be signs of evolutionary success.
