In a perfect world, marriage might be nice and easy. In the real world, it is complicated. A married couple must share a living space, join their finances, share their sexuality, make joint decisions, and deal with the stress and baggage of each other’s childhood and first families. This is at a minimum, before children or previous marriages or children from previous marriages even enter the equation. Thinking of all the stress and hurdles a married couple must navigate, it can begin to seem amazing that any marriage lasts, especially as the stresses begin to pile up on each other. The best and first thing required to keep a marriage going is motivation.
