“Getting” vs. “Being” in Relationships

Single people make huge investments in order to get into a relationship. Expenditures include the cost of dating, as well as the time and energy invested in looking good to the ones we are interested in attracting. This in turn is followed by the cost of getting married. Couples and families spend an astounding average of 20 grand on weddings.  With this huge outlay to get married, you might expect at least some investment to be made in staying married. Incredibly, couples spend little time or money on marital maintenance. We need to value being in relationships as much as getting into them.
