Do you want to be happy for a couple of years? Get married. If you want to stay happy, monitor your marriage. To avoid the natural matrimonial decline, a two-year study of 120 couples revealed that a 7-minute questionnaire could improve marriage over time. Every four months following the first year of marriage, half the couples evaluated their relationships and revisited the most significant disagreement between them. The other half proceeded without the questionnaire. At the study’s conclusion, research showed stable levels of happiness for only the first set of couples. The study indicates that marital satisfaction could be maintained by a couple’s willingness to address conflicts that could divide them.
