In families across the country, teens are graduating high school and preparing to leave home for the first time as they head off to college. This is a major transition and can be a very bittersweet time for parents. While parents are proud of their children’s accomplishments and excited about their children’s future success, they also find themselves feeling sad, nostalgic, and anxious, and not a little worried about how they will cope with their new lives away from home as college students. Imitate the birds. They build their nests and raise their young, but then the push them out on their own. Parents should let go and let their children fly.
