The virtues of positivity and cheer are touted widely during the holidays, but after that season, there is a chance to reflect on it all. Of course being positive is a good habit to be in, but at times it can actually be detrimental to your relationship. For example, in times when you are facing especially trying circumstances or issues, there are limits to the benefits of positivity. Optimism, when pushed too far, can harbor stress and the inability to stop harmful behaviors. Even kindness works better when turned around in a relationship with severe problems. While positivity is a good start, knowing the limitations will benefit your relationship when times are tough.
