Psychologists define guilt as a negative emotion, fitting in the category of other distressing mental states such as agony, grief, and loneliness. There are many theories about the causes of guilt but there are five agreed upon types. First is guilt over something you did. Second is guilt for something you didn’t do but wish that you had. Third is guilt about something you imagine you did. Fourth is guilt about not helping someone as much as you might have helped them and fifth is guilt that you are better off than others. Whatever the cause or type, guilt is something to definitely keep in check.
