The Unselfish Act of Self-Care

Laurie Mintz, Ph. D. writes in this article about the difference between being selfish and taking care of yourself. Women, she says, tend to confuse the two. This confusion can lead to problems in the home and in relationships. She mentions a proverb that says, “You must fill your own pitcher before filling everyone else’s cup.” Self-care is the act of filling your own pitcher. You may need to take a few extra minutes after work to unwind or sneak off to a candle lit bathtub for some personal time to relax before you engage in demands of daily life.
