Laurie Mintz, Ph.D. explains the difference between being selfish and self-care. Being selfish takes away from others. Self-care improves your ability to give to others. She points out that if you are not happy, you can not make others happy. Taking time to calm down and be centered may make you 30 minutes later getting home after work, but it will make a world of difference in your attitude when you get there. In her book, A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex, she devotes an entire chapter to the correlation between self-care, decreased stress, enhanced physical health, emotional well-being, and increased sexual desire. Making yourself happy may put a smile on your partner’s face.
