In medicine and in relationships we must strive first to do no harm. Cutting off communication and intimacies can seriously damage your relationship. For example, women sometimes withhold sex as punishment or use other behaviors to control their mates. This sort of behavior is similar to using a tourniquet too long. Tourniquets can cause serious damage with prolonged use, and controlling behaviors can cause similar relationship damage. Doctors call in assistance from others when they are overwhelmed, and it’s important for us to do the same when we need help with our relationships.
